http://www.lowes.com/johndeere Air filters get dirty over time, and you may not even realize that the mower isn't performing at its best until it is too late. In this video we will show you how to change the air filter in your John Deere mower. First, find and read your operator's manual. Open the engine compartment and make sure the air intake screen is free of debris. You can remove the debris by hand first, and use a brush to remove the rest of the material. Next, check the air filter and pre-cleaner. Remove the air filter cover and check the paper element. If the air filter element is dirty, remove and discard it. Next, find the foam pre-cleaner. If the pre-cleaner is dirty, remove it and rinse it in a solution of warm water and liquid soap. Once clean, squeeze out the excess water, using a paper towel to soak up the water. Do this until the pre-cleaner is dry. Clean the area where the pre-cleaner rests so that no dirt gets pushed into the engine. Reinstall the pre-cleaner. Insert the new air filter and replace the air filter cover. Replace the air filter once a year. You may need to replace the air filter more often if you mow many hours each week, or mow in dusty conditions. Check the operator's manual for a maintenance schedule.
